American Indian Nonprofit Leadership Academy

American Indian nonprofits are the glue that hold American Indian communities together. These organizations are often tapped to assume multiple areas of responsibility in order to fulfill the educational, cultural, medical, housing and many other needs of this community. This is particularly true of newer or under-staffed nonprofits and of those organizations based in small communities.

The Center for Leadership Innovation has seen time and again the value of investing in leadership to realize change in communities across the nation. As such, TCLI has designed a program to develop the leaders of urban Indian nonprofits, to help them strategically and innovatively meet the many demands of the populations they serve.

The American Indian Nonprofit Leadership Academy is a two year initiative in nonprofit management, organizational development, and leadership development for a total of 200 American Indian leaders from 50 nonprofit organizations roster comprised of 50 executive directors, 50 emerging leaders, 50 board presidents and 50 youth leaders.

The organizational focus of participating nonprofit groups is spread among the 12 key areas required for comprehensive and integrated American Indian community building:

• Aging/Senior Citizen Services
• Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services
• Arts & Education/Culture
• Education/K-12
• Family & Children’s Services
• Health/Human Services
